The lunch talk is nominally on Mondays from 12:15 to 1:15pm, an hour including questions/discussion. We gather in the at noon to eat bag lunches before the talk starts. Please plan to arrive on campus by 11:15am if you want to pick up lunch before the talk. Otherwise, 11:45 is ok.
The talk is in the Physics Research Center (PRC) building, in room 215 unless otherwise noted on the schedule. The room has a large-screen TV and Apple computer for projecting slides, or an HDMI and VGA connector for connecting your own laptop, and a blackboard.
The audience often consists of a mix of faculty, postdocs, and graduate students from the HEP experiment group, the particle theory group, and other related groups on campus. The room is usually filled to capacity. Since it's an informal talk, we tend to interrupt with a lot of questions. Plan on getting through fewer slides than usual, but feel free to have plenty of backups. Chalkboard-based talks are welcome and encouraged.
Directions to campus are provided farther below. Once you have arrived on campus, it is not straightforward to get into the PRC building. From the Ellis garage, walk about one block south to the Research Institutes accelerator building at the southwest corner of Ellis and 56th Street. This is a long, two-story building with two sets of black doors along its length (5604-20 S Ellis Ave). Continue to the end of the accelerator building, where it meets the William Eckhardt Research Center. Take the sidewalk between Accelerator and Eckhardt and you will enter a courtyard. To your right, you will see the HEP building, and next to it the PRC, with a greenish glass facade. Enter and take the stairs or elevator (just down the hall to the left) to the second floor, and circle around to find room 215 in the opposite corner of the building.
To get to the Enrico Fermi Institute, take one of the interstate highways to Chicago (88, 290, or 55) and get onto the Dan Ryan (90/94) south. Get off the interstate on the 55th St/Garfield Avenue/Museum of Science exit and take Garfield Avenue eastwards. In the park, veer to the left and then make a right turn onto 55th Street eastbound (see map below). Take 55th St. two blocks to Ellis Avenue and turn right, then left into the parking building.
Alternatively, if you don't want to deal with the Dan Ryan, follow 290 or 55 to Lake Shore Drive and go south. Get off at the exit for 53rd St. Take a left at the first light on Hyde Park Blvd. Follow this to make a right on 55th St. Take a left at Ellis, and another left into the parking garage.
Parking near the HEP building can be difficult. We recommend the Ellis Avenue Parking Garage, a block away from the HEP building at the corner of 55th and Ellis:
If the Ellis lot is full, your best bet is to look for a spot on the streets north of the garage, in the vicinity of this route:
